WHAT ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE REGENERATIVE CELLS?

Regenerative cells are at the forefront of medicine to treat many illnesses and injuries. They are a natural alternative to major surgeries and pain medications. If you are researching this innovative area of medicine, it may raise some questions.

For example, regenerative cell treatments are often confused with stem cell therapies and some are more effective than others. While similar in nature, there are distinct differences in how they work and how they are sourced.

Wharton’s Jelly Derived Mesenchymal Cells

Mesenchymal cells are highly effective regenerative cells used for treatment. These cells are harvested from a substance called Wharton’s jelly. This is a gelatinous material found in the umbilical cord of cesarean-born babies. The Wharton’s jelly is collected at the time of birth from mothers who are carefully screened and consenting. The harvesting of Wharton’s jelly also causes no harm or discomfort to mother or child. The mesenchymal cells found in Wharton’s jelly contains growth factors and cytokines that are essential to proper healing and cell regeneration.

These cells are so effective because they are youthful and potent in healing properties. The stem cells that we naturally carry age along with us, which is why it becomes more difficult to heal as we get older. When introducing mesenchymal cells, the healing process is significantly greater because they are younger and stronger. This cellular treatment type is not synonymous with what most people think of as “stem cell” therapy.

Adipose Tissue

A common type of stem cell therapy is derived from adipose tissue. Also known as fatty tissue, it is commonly used for stem cell therapy because it is readily available and can be abundant in the body. Harvesting it begins with the extraction of fatty tissue from the client’s body. The tissue then undergoes a process to isolate the stem cells within the fat cells. These stem cells are then injected back into the area of the body that is in need of healing.

While this is a popular choice for some, it is important to note that stem cells from adipose tissue are older since they are typically harvested from the patients themselves. Adult stem cells are less equipped at healing than younger cells. Another risk to using cells sourced from adipose tissue is that they may include environmental toxins. Because they are stored in the body, toxins may have built up. This could lead to complications and hinder the healing process.

Bone Marrow

Another form of stem cell therapy is derived from bone marrow. The procedure involves drilling a small hole into the pelvis or femur bone. The bone marrow is then extracted, the stem cells are isolated and concentrated and then injected back into the body. Due to drilling of the bone, this stem cell therapy can be extremely painful and lead to a longer recovery time than treatments done with regenerative cells. Bone marrow therapy also carries a risk of complications and infection.

It is important to be well-informed about the different types of stem cell treatments and regenerative cell therapy. Our doctors prefer mesenchymal cell treatments because of their potency. Call us to schedule a complimentary appointment and learn about the right option for your condition.
