By supporting brain health and reducing the risk of cognitive impairment, vitamin D may help preserve mental function and enhance overall quality of life as people age.  It is very important to realize that although on paper (in your bloodwork) it might say that you are within range…the range is quite broad, normal levels are said to be between 30-100.  In our opinion, that is too broad.  Our preference for our patients is between 55-80.  So make sure to keep an eye on that, and don’t simply rely on the reference ranges.

Despite its potential benefits, vitamin D deficiency is prevalent worldwide, particularly in regions with limited sunlight exposure. As people age, the skin’s ability to synthesize vitamin D decreases, making supplementation an important consideration for older adults. Ensuring adequate vitamin D levels through diet, supplementation, and sensible sun exposure is crucial for maintaining health and promoting longevity.  We recommend between 5,000iu and 10,000iu a day, however, it is very important to speak to your healthcare professional to see what the right dosing for YOU is.
